Museveni: Besigye was Making Noise When We’re Fighting Kony

{President Yoweri Museveni has said that the National Resistance Movement is still a powerful and capable party and urged its members to stay united to achieve their goals.}

Museveni who is also the National Chairman of the NRM said the party is more important than individuals.

He was yesterday speaking at a meeting held with NRM councilors and opinion leaders from Kanungu district led by Canon Josephine Kasya at State House Entebbe. The group also presented their memorandum to the President.

Museveni remarks come amidst observations from majorly opposition politicians and other observers that the ruling party has dangerously made its survival dependent entirely on President Yoweri Museveni.

Several analyses have predicted sudden crumbling of the NRM which have reigned for three decades, once Museveni signs out.

Similar observations were made by now dissident NRM stalwart Hon Amama Mbabazi who is vying to contest against Museveni next year’s election.

Some youthful NRM leaders have been quoted in the media as attesting that the party would barely survive without President Museveni.

“Without Museveni, NRM is no more,” the party deputy treasurer Dr Kennth Omona was quoted by the Observer at a function held to ‘launch the 5th term project.’

At the same function, MP Peter Ogwang said that any move to hound Museveni would “spoil [NRM’s] growth.”

However, Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Hon Kahinda Otafiire, believes the NRM party can still move on when Museveni has left.

He says the founding father is currently needed to steer the party and the nation, but when his time comes, he would be appropriately replaced.

During Sunday’s meeting, the President told the Kigezi delegation that the NRM does not believe in sectarianism but instead seeks to help all Ugandans transform and become prosperous through economic production.

The President noted that when the NRM government was busy fighting Joseph Kony, ADF, disarming the Karamojong, Dr. Kizza Besigye was doing nothing but making noise for the President to leave.

He said what Ugandans need is better infrastructure like roads and electricity, peace and security, improved education and health etc.
