Algeria President Abdelaziz Bouteflika hailed Rwanda’s efforts for peace and security in Africa, particularly through its participation in the UN peacekeeping missions, said Wednesday a joint statement issued at the end of the state visit of Rwandan President Paul Kagame to Algeria.
President Bouteflika also commended President Kagame for his efforts to establish peace and stability in the region of the Great Lakes,” said the statement.
President Bouteflika congratulated the Rwandan president “on his efforts since the end of the genocide in 1994 and the establishment of peace and stability in his country allowing an economic and social development.”
In this regard, the Head of State expressed “deepest sympathy and his solidarity with the Rwandan people, who are commemorating this year the 21st anniversary of the Rwandan genocide, which remains one of the darkest chapters of the history of humanity.”
The President of the Republic also underlined the “need to step up efforts to continue and arrest the responsible for the heinous crime which claimed nearly one million lives,” said the joint statement.
