Burundi Sets up Anti-Terrorism Unit to deal with Hostage cases

{Burundi is setting up an anti-terrorist unit called “Judicial Research and Intervention Brigade to intervene in cases there are hostages in plane or at the airport.
}

48 members of this unit have been trained by the Intervention Group of the Gendarmerie Nationale and the French National Police.

Trained Police personnel will be able to intervene in a crisis whether in enclosed areas of the airport or whether in an aircraft.

Since the attacks of September 11, 2001 in the United States, “the whole world is mobilized for a prevention policy against international terrorism in general and in our sub-region in particular,” said Maniratunga Albert, the Director General of International Civil Aviation

In the East African Community (EAC), which includes Burundi, Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, preventive measures are being put in a coordinated way to fight against this kind of terrorism.
