The African continent still experiences very serious challenges related to the guarantee of peace and stability in its various regions, said on Thursday in Waco-Cungo locality in the central Cuanza Sul province, the Angola Defence minister, João Lourenço.
João Lourenço was speaking at a closing ceremony of joint military exercise of the armed forces of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) member states, called “Valley Keve of 2014”, in Waco-Cungo, coastal Cuanza Sul province.
João Lourenço said that the absence of multilateral mechanisms that prevented or minimized the effects of natural calamities and insecurity problems should be everyone’s concern.
According to him, this kind of negative phenomena should deserve opportune responses and a permanent preparation, which might endanger the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the SADC member countries.
The manoeuvres started on 1 August last and brought together about 1, 700 special troops from the Armies of Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Lesotho, Namibia, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Zambia
